Hunters Hill A vrs Chatswood Friday 23 May at 8pm
Firstly I would like to congratulate the team in the manner in which they secured a victory against the much celebrated Chatswood team.
It is incredible to watch 9 yr old boys play such attractive rugby. This was evident in the fact that our wingers scored 4 tries between them and our centre scored the other. They are what in business are called “team tries”. We had six forwards securing the possession, the inside backs quickly moving the ball into space and finally our two centres catching the pass and drawing the man for classic rugby union tries.
The victory was secured by a lot of hard work whether it was the effort in set play; the huge numbers at the break down; the tackling of the team; and the military execution of the team plan of moving the ball wide.
I asked the boys before the game to put out of their minds the thought of victory and to concentrate on enjoying the game (that is why they play); give 100% and leave nothing in the tank; tackle as if their lives depended on it; and finally just play to the best of their ability. If they managed to do that and we lost we lost to a better team, that’s life.
They showed that they have not only a lot of talent but an ability to stick to the team plan which is for players to be involved in the game not just one or two talented players and dig deep when under pressure. These are admiral qualities that we should be proud of.
The highlight for me personally was hearing their coach scream out time and time again give the ball to Will ((Chatswood In-side Centre), this illustrated clearly that a team of champions will always better a champion player.
Well done, please enjoy the victory but remember it is only a game.
Finally thanks to Mark for his assistance with the team, it was much appreciated.
See you all at training on Tuesday.
PS Tks to the reserves, we had Chris, Jerico, Jack and Alex. Only Alex & Jack received any game time, Darren & I feel strongly that we should play those players who are part of the squad. Chris, Jerico and Jack all play for the under 11 B team but are our official reserves while Alex is a valuable squad member(who was actually down to start but played a full game for the’B’ team before our game)
